If you would like to find out more about CBD oils we recommend our previous blog post CBD Oils: Everything You Need to Know.

CBD oils and Cannabinoid system

The cannabinoid system consists of CB1 and CB2 receptors. Endocannabinoid receptors are produced in our body, while phytocannabinoid receptors are ingested into the body from plants.

Phytocannabinoids fit into our receptors and further affect other processes in the body. The main role of this system in a connection with our skin, is to control and harmonise the growth of skin cells. It also determines the role of cells in our skin and how long they will remain there.

The main function of skin cells is to trigger an adequate response in our immune system. For example, if we cut or burn our hands, the skin cell sends a signal to the body so that the skin begins to resist and reacts appropriately.

"Western medicine does not yet know the causes of these diseases (eczema, psoriasis, acne), but the research suggests that the stress is very likely the most common contributing factor. We have no allopathic medicine available. "

(Blesching, 2018)

For this reason, CBD oils are used as a natural treatment for skin problems. The professional book called "The Cannabis Health Index" explores in a depth the topic of cannabis treatment and its effect on the human body and mind.

The skin is the so-called imaginary boundary between us and the external environment - it is an image that we show to the outside world. It often happens that patients with skin problems suffer from anxiety caused by the visibility of these diseases. This caused stress does not obviously help in the treatment. These anxieties can further develop into more serious mental health problems.

Psychosomatics - a term that dates to ancient Greece and describes the links between our soul (psyché) and body (soma). It looks at our body as a whole (body, mind, and soul). All the cells in our body respond to each of our emotions and thoughts. Put it simply, it is a process in which the body defends our mental health by drawing attention to problems with physical symptoms. A long-term stress and mental exhaustion most often cause skin problems, but also other diseases, which we will address in the following articles.

CBD not only calms the body but also our mind. Therefore, CBD oil is suitable not only for the entire day, but also for example, for meditation, which is an ideal helper in combating negative feelings and thoughts.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a skin disease in which skin cells rapidly separate, accumulate, and form layers.

Psoriasis is affected by both receptors, CB1 and CB2. By stimulating the cannabinoid system by these receptors, we reduce the proliferation of keratinocytons and the spread of inflammation throughout the body. Keratinocytes are the primary cells in the epidermis and represent 90% of all epidermal skin cells.  As a rule, change cells every 10 to 30 days - cells die and new ones grow. In the case of psoriasis, new cells can grow every 3 to 4 days and the body thus forms an excessive amount of skin cells in response to inflammation. Psoriasis occurs most often in the joints, where it is most stressed, such as the knees or elbows.

The cause of psoriasis is not defined by modern Western medicine. It is speculated that heredity, for example, plays an important role. Another reason is the already mentioned psychosomatics - i.e. excessive stress or anxiety.

Acne

Acne is one of the most common chronic skin diseases that mainly affects young people. It is caused by the skin pores becoming clogged by an excessive sebum formation.

With acne, cannabinoids stimulate only the CB2 receptor. The cannabidiol - CBD binds most readily to this receptor. Therefore, it is best to choose CBD Pure Oil - without THC. CBD oils help to stop the formation of sebum - it sends a signal that affects the amount of sebum formed in the skin. CBD acts on the hormones epinephrine and steroid cortisol, which overstimulate the sebaceous glands and help form acne. These hormones are mainly caused by excessive stress. Thus using CBD oil internally is beneficial in this case. CBD in combination with marul oil reduces the activity of the sebaceous glands - therefore to support the healing, its recommended to apply this type of oil topically.

Eczema

Eczema is a skin disease that is caused by irritating stimuli that come from our subconscious.

As with psoriasis, cannabinoids stimulate both CB1 and CB2 receptors. In this case, CBD helps the immune process to fight pain, itching and relieve inflammation in the body.

In a study of 27 patients who were tested for psychosomatics, eczema occurred when everyone felt that someone or something was preventing them from doing something but he was not able to cope with the frustration that arose from these situations. It deals with obstacles or the person who has his efforts.

Thus, irritating situations are based on frustration, dissatisfaction, and excessive stress.
